Wisconsin Delivers Over $152 Million in Quarterly Transportation Aid to Local Governments

Friday, October 9, 2026 · States · GSM News

Wisconsin's local roads are getting another major infusion of state funding. On October 5, Governor Tony Evers and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced more than $152 million in fourth-quarter 2026 transportation aid payments to counties and municipalities statewide, to repair, maintain and improve local roads and connecting highways. The payments include about $142.6 million in General Transportation Aids, about $4.26 million in Connecting Highway Aids covering 116 municipalities, and about $5.26 million in Expressway Policing Aids for Milwaukee County. With this final round, calendar-year 2026 General Transportation Aids total more than $570 million, the largest in state history. The money comes from the 2025–27 state budget signed by the governor last year, which added $1.1 billion in new transportation funding, raised General Transportation Aids by 3% in each year, and included over $100 million in supplemental local road funding plus $150 million for agricultural roads. The transportation department says Wisconsin has improved more than 9,600 miles of road and over 2,400 bridges since 2019. For Chinese residents, students and commuters in Wisconsin, where harsh winters make road conditions a daily safety issue, the sustained investment is worth watching.
