Capitals Cool Off Rangers 3-1 as Jenner Scores First With Washington, Shesterkin Exits Hurt
The Washington Capitals beat the New York Rangers 3-1 on October 9, snapping New York's four-game win streak. Boone Jenner, signed to a four-year deal in July, scored his first goal for Washington, Timothy Liljegren also netted his first with the club, and Logan Thompson made 22 saves.
Alexis Lafreniere opened the scoring for the Rangers, but starting goalie Igor Shesterkin left in the second period after jamming his right leg into the post and was replaced by Dylan Garand. Tom Wilson added an empty-net goal with one second remaining.
