Fire Prevention Week Ends: White House Urges Monthly Alarm Tests and Home Escape Plans

Fire Prevention Week 2026 runs Oct. 4-10. In its Fire Prevention Week message, the White House urged every family to take simple steps at home: map out an escape plan, test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms monthly, replace worn wiring and avoid overloaded outlets, and practice safe charging habits for everyday electronic devices. The message also honored U.S. firefighters and first responders and reaffirmed federal work on wildfire prevention and response. (Source: The White House, whitehouse.gov; NFPA)
