North Carolina Suspends 41-Cent Fuel Tax From Oct. 10 Through Nov. 30

North Carolina Governor Josh Stein on October 9 signed House Bill 3, the Relief at the Pump Act, suspending the state's 41-cent-per-gallon motor-fuel tax. The suspension runs from October 10 through November 30 for gasoline, diesel and other covered motor fuels, and the state will replace an estimated $362.3 million in forgone revenue from its Stabilization and Inflation Reserve to keep transportation projects funded.
The law requires the savings to be passed through to consumers, except for fuel retailers had already bought with tax included, and it extends penalty relief for qualifying farm use of dyed diesel through December 31. Stein called the measure temporary relief and one step toward lowering everyday costs for families.
