Pomona College Launches $530M 'Originals' Campaign, Breaks Ground on Center for Global Engagement

Saturday, October 10, 2026 · Education · GSM News

On October 10, Pomona College in Claremont, California publicly launched its $530 million comprehensive fundraising effort, the 'Originals Campaign,' and broke ground on a new Center for Global Engagement at the launch ceremony. The most ambitious fundraising effort in the college's history, the campaign has already raised 47% of its goal and will run over the next five years.

According to the college's official announcement, the campaign will focus on four priorities: expanding financial aid — including for students from middle-income families — investing in faculty and emerging areas of scholarship, strengthening health and wellness programs, and deepening connections across generations of alumni and students.

President G. Gabrielle Starr said at the launch that the campaign is about ensuring Pomona remains a place where remarkable students can thrive regardless of financial circumstances, where faculty continue to redefine what a liberal arts education can be, and where fresh ideas become meaningful change.

The groundbreaking for the Center for Global Engagement marks the college's internationalization strategy moving into bricks and mortar. A member of The Claremont Colleges consortium, Pomona is one of America's top liberal arts colleges, and a campaign of this scale is rare even among elite liberal arts institutions.

For Chinese American families in Southern California who follow education closely — Claremont is a well-known college town — the investment is likely to further raise the profile, and the applicant pool, of this 'small but mighty' school.
