California Eases CalFresh Access for College Students, Up to $306 a Month

California announced on October 9 that undergraduate students enrolled in degree programs at community colleges, California State University or the University of California now meet the initial application requirements for CalFresh. Financially eligible students may receive up to $306 a month for food and groceries.
The state said the change does not create a new benefit; it removes barriers that kept eligible at-least-half-time associate and bachelor's degree students from applying. California expects more than 200,000 additional eligible students to enroll, supported by a new student outreach campaign.
