BIRMINGHAM — Hurricane Isaias came ashore near Destin, Florida, as a Category 2 storm on the night of October 9 and moved north, and Alabama officials confirmed two storm-related deaths, according to October 10-11 reporting by USA Today, NPR and Central Florida Public Media. In Jefferson County, a tree fell on a single-family home in Birmingham's Huffman area, killing a resident. In Barbour County in the state's southeast, a second person died in a vehicle crash involving fallen trees.

Jefferson County Emergency Management Agency Director Jim Coker confirmed the Birmingham death to NPR, and Governor Kay Ivey's office confirmed the Barbour County death to NPR. The storm left downed trees and power lines across Alabama; around midday on October 11, PowerOutage.us showed roughly 76,500 Alabama customer accounts still without power, with road closures and debris clearing continuing.

Across the disaster area, Isaias also killed two people in Escambia County, Florida, and one weather-related death was reported in Greenwood County, South Carolina, bringing the overall toll to five. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, visiting Milton on October 11, said northern Santa Rosa County was among Florida's hardest-hit areas, and utilities expected most affected customers to have power restored by October 12.

Alabama had previously placed 40 counties under an emergency declaration. This follow-up records the confirmed Alabama toll — two residents dead and tens of thousands without power — as damage assessment continued on October 11.
