Charlotte's First Wegmans Opens Oct. 14, Bringing About 450 Jobs

Charlotte is a city in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. Charlotte is about to get its first Wegmans supermarket. According to WBTV, the CBS affiliate, the store in the Ballantyne area will officially open at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 11550 North Community House Road.
The 110,000-square-foot store will employ about 450 people and offer 664 dedicated parking spaces, nearly double the size of a typical grocery store. It will carry all of Wegmans' traditional departments — produce, bakery, prepared foods, meat, seafood, sushi, coffee and more — along with a market cafe featuring indoor and outdoor seating serving pizza, salad, sushi and other freshly prepared options. The store will also include a French-style cafe rarely seen in the chain and a Market Grill where shoppers order from a QR code and have food delivered to their table, plus an outdoor area — the chain's first with a play field for children.
This is Wegmans' fifth store in North Carolina, following locations in Chapel Hill, Raleigh, Wake Forest and West Cary. A Wegmans spokesperson previously said the company received hundreds of requests from Charlotte-area residents and spent years looking for the right location. The store is part of the Ballantyne Reimagined mixed-use development, which also includes office, medical, hotel and park space.
Wegmans' official store page confirms an Oct. 14, 2026 opening. For Charlotte residents who have been driving to Cary or Chapel Hill for a proper Wegmans run, that long trip is about to end.
