LONDON, Oct. 10 — The 70th BFI London Film Festival (Oct. 7-18) had one of its biggest nights Saturday as Brad Bird's animated feature 'Ray Gunn' held its world premiere at the Royal Festival Hall on the Southbank.

Scarlett Johansson dazzled on the red carpet in a red Hermès gown, joined by co-star Sam Rockwell, director Brad Bird and composer Michael Giacchino.

Set in Metropia, a gigantic city in an alternate future as seen from 1939, the film follows private eye Raymond Gunn (voiced by Rockwell), who is drawn into a case involving aliens, murder and multimedia star Venus Nova (voiced by Johansson). The voice cast also includes Bobby Cannavale, Tom Waits, Matt Berry, Alan Tudyk and Patton Oswalt. The film is Bird's long-gestating passion project.

'Ray Gunn' opens in select theaters Dec. 4 and streams on Netflix beginning Dec. 18. This year's festival opened with Simon Stone's 'Elsinore' starring Andrew Scott and closes Oct. 18 with Jesse Eisenberg's musical comedy 'The Debut.'
