Honolulu: Hawaiian Airlines to Cut 13 Non-Union Jobs on Oahu

Sunday, October 11, 2026 · City · GSM News

HONOLULU — Honolulu is a city in Honolulu County, Hawaii (a consolidated city-county). Hawaiian Airlines plans to eliminate 13 non-union positions on Oahu, according to a layoff notice the company filed with the State of Hawaii on October 2 under the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act. KITV Island News reported the filing on October 10.

All 13 positions are non-contract roles not covered by a union agreement. Eleven are at the corporate headquarters in Honolulu, one at the cargo hangar, and one at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL). About 537 non-contract employees work across the three sites.

The cuts, expected to take effect between December 2026 and January 2027, are described by Alaska Airlines as permanent, though the company said it does not expect to close any facilities. The move is part of the ongoing integration of Hawaiian Airlines with Alaska Airlines following their merger. According to Simple Flying, affected employees will receive retention bonuses, severance packages, and job-search assistance.

The airline said flight operations and schedules are not affected by the cuts. Hawaiian Airlines remains Hawaii's flagship home-grown carrier, and the merger continues to reshape aviation employment in the islands. (Photo: Wikimedia Commons, openly licensed.)
