Shooting at Great Wall Supermarket in Houston's Chinatown Leaves Customer and Guard Critically Injured

Sunday, October 11, 2026 · City · GSM News

Houston is a city in Harris County, Texas. A shooting at a Chinese supermarket in Houston's Chinatown on the night of October 9 left a customer and a security guard critically injured after the two exchanged gunfire. The incident took place at the Great Wall Supermarket on Bellaire Boulevard near the Sam Houston Tollway — one of the busiest commercial corridors in Houston's Chinese community — and has shaken local residents.

According to the Houston Police Department, the shooting happened around 8 p.m. on October 9. A man in his 20s walked into the store with his girlfriend and a dog; a security guard stopped them, saying pets were not allowed inside for health-code reasons. An argument followed, and the man suddenly pulled a firearm and shot at the guard, who returned fire. Surveillance video from a neighboring restaurant captured the chaos as about 20 shoppers rushed toward the kitchen to hide.

"All I hear is run, run, run," recalled Claire Pec Sapon, an employee at the Juicy Box restaurant next door. "I was scared, honestly. I was thinking about calling my loved ones, thinking what was the next step to do." Another employee, Lesly Cux-Saso, said she saw 15 to 20 people running toward the back: "In my head, this can't be happening."

A nearby officer, Lt. Larry Crowson, heard the gunshots, rushed to the scene, chased down the suspect as he tried to flee and took him into custody.

Both wounded men were taken to hospitals in critical condition. Police say the investigation continues; neither man has been publicly identified and no charges have been announced.

According to FOX 26 Houston's October 10 report, this is the second public-safety incident drawing attention in the area that weekend — a fatal shooting also occurred on Harrisburg Boulevard in the Second Ward. Houston police are urging merchants and residents to prioritize store safety as the holidays approach and to call police rather than confront disputes head-on.
