JAKARTA — Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi paid a state visit to Indonesia on October 10–11. On Sunday, October 11, he held bilateral talks with President Prabowo Subianto at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, where the two countries agreed to establish a joint investment fund, to push for an Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), and called for immediate de-escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.

'On the economic front, particularly trade and investment, we have encouraged the establishment of an Economic Partnership Agreement between Indonesia and Egypt to create wider opportunities for market access, investment and business involvement in both countries,' Prabowo said in a joint statement after the meeting. He welcomed the initiative by the two countries' investment agencies to set up a Joint Investment Fund to promote investment in strategic projects and accelerate projects that add value to both economies. 'The partnership requires concrete cooperation that will bring real benefits to both our peoples,' he said. According to Egypt's State Information Service, the leaders agreed a new Plan of Action spanning defence and security, trade, investment and cultural cooperation, with investment cooperation between Danantara and Egypt's Future of Egypt agency focused on energy, logistics, agribusiness and manufacturing.

Both countries reaffirmed support for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and called for humanitarian support for Gaza. Antara reported that Prabowo and El-Sisi called for immediate Middle East de-escalation, warning that an expanding conflict threatens civilian lives and global economic stability.

The visit consolidates a strategic partnership agreed during Prabowo's state visit to Egypt in April 2025. Indonesia and Egypt are both populous Muslim-majority emerging economies, and both sides say they want to turn historical ties and a sense of brotherhood into practical results in trade, investment and diplomatic coordination. Business communities in both countries will be watching for the fund's capital structure and first projects as ministries follow up on the agreements.
