Trial Date Set in UK for Genocide Suspect Bajinya: October 2027

Sunday, October 11, 2026 · World News · GSM News

Genocide suspect Vincent Bajinya, also known as Vincent Brown, is scheduled to stand trial in the United Kingdom on 4 October 2027 over alleged involvement in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, The New Times reported on 11 October 2026. The trial date was set at a preliminary hearing at the Central Criminal Court, the Old Bailey, in London on 9 October.

Bajinya has lived in the United Kingdom for many years, and his case is one of several in which suspects of the 1994 genocide are being pursued in foreign courts. The British prosecution concerns acts alleged to have taken place in Rwanda in 1994; the case reaching a trial date thirty-two years later has drawn sustained attention from Rwandan media and survivor communities.

On the same day, First Lady Jeannette Kagame attended celebrations marking the 25th anniversary of Africa New Life Ministries, commending the organisation for supporting vulnerable families and helping restore dignity and a sense of belonging to people affected by the genocide and its aftermath.

Before the 2027 trial, the Bajinya case will go through further procedural preparation, including evidence exchange. Judicial cooperation between Rwanda and the United Kingdom on genocide cases has precedent, and the trial will be a further test of overseas prosecution of these historical crimes.
