Smallville Star Tom Welling Accidentally Posts Exposed Reflection in NYC Hotel Window; Photo Up 10 Hours Before Deletion

Even Superman has an off day. On Friday, October 9, 2026, Smallville star Tom Welling — in New York for New York Comic Con — posted a photo of the Manhattan skyline to his Instagram Stories with the caption "Hello, NYCC." He probably just wanted to greet fans. What he apparently didn't notice: the hotel room's glass window clearly reflected his own image — and the photographer was wearing nothing at all.
According to TV Insider, the photo stayed up on Welling's Stories for at least 10 hours before it was deleted. But the internet never sleeps: screenshots had already gone viral, and "Tom Welling" shot up the trending charts on X and Google. Fans gasped and joked in equal measure — one said he "needs a PR agent," another quipped it was "not very Clark Kent of him." As of October 11, Welling had not publicly addressed the mishap; TV Insider reached out to his representative for comment and had not heard back.
Dramatically, the very next day — Saturday, October 10 — Welling took the Javits Center stage as scheduled for "The Road to Superman: 25 Years of Smallville," reuniting with Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor), Kristin Kreuk (Lana Lang), Erica Durance (Lois Lane) and producer Julie Snyder. Onstage, Welling even volunteered an old anecdote about a "nude photo": years ago on set, John Glover (Lionel Luthor) walked into his makeup trailer carrying a fan-made nude image of Welling from the internet and asked him to sign it. Welling said Glover asked, "Is this really you?" — and he told a white lie ("Yep") and signed it, to roars of laughter.
The context: Smallville marks its 25th anniversary on October 16. The series premiered on The WB in 2001, moved to The CW, and ran for 10 seasons before ending in May 2011, chronicling Clark Kent's journey before he became Superman — a defining show for a generation. Welling briefly reprised the role in 2019's Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover, and all ten seasons are now streaming on Disney+ and Hulu. The window-reflection mishap has added an unforgettable blooper to the anniversary reunion — though for Welling himself, those 10 hours before the deletion were probably the longest 10 hours of his year.
