Georgia Edges Alabama 20-17 in Tuscaloosa, Poised to Take No. 1 Ranking

TUSCALOOSA, Oct. 10 — In the most anticipated game of college football's Week 6, the Georgia Bulldogs outlasted the Alabama Crimson Tide 20-17 on Saturday night at Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium, handing Alabama its first loss of the season.
Georgia jumped to a 10-0 lead before Alabama roared back to take the lead just before halftime. The second half turned into a defensive slugfest, with Bulldogs running backs Bo Walker and Dwight Phillips Jr. powering a 10-play, 84-yard drive capped by Peyton Woodring's 23-yard field goal with 5:25 remaining. Georgia then ran out the clock, aided by an untimely Alabama personal foul.
It was another stunner on a wild Saturday: No. 1 Texas fell in the Red River Rivalry earlier in the day and LSU lost in overtime. With Texas losing, Georgia is all but certain to occupy the No. 1 spot in next week's rankings.
Southern California note: UCLA upset Oregon on the same day, handing the Ducks their second loss of the season in one of the West Coast's biggest surprises of the night.
