Monday, October 12, 2026 · States · GSM News

Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has proclaimed October 2026 as the state's "Intellectual Property Month," recognizing the role of creativity, innovation, and IP protection in the state's economic growth and long-term prosperity, the University of Arkansas news center reported October 7.

The proclamation honors the contributions of Arkansas creators, inventors, entrepreneurs, researchers, and small business owners, emphasizing the key role of patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets in protecting their work and bringing new products, services, and technologies to market. It also recognizes the contributions of the state's colleges, universities, and research partners to scientific advancement, workforce development, and technology commercialization.

David Hinton, the university's vice chancellor for research and innovation and director of its technology transfer office, said: "Intellectual Property Month gives us a chance to recognize the university researchers and creators who improve people's lives and strengthen Arkansas. Technology transfer opens another pathway for research to benefit communities — by protecting discoveries and building partnerships that take lab findings to the public."
