Colorado Governor Signs Order Easing Fuel Transport Rules as Gas Tops $4

Colorado Governor Jared Polis on October 9 signed an executive order temporarily adjusting transportation and fuel enforcement policies as gasoline prices topped $4 per gallon and diesel exceeded $6, The Denver Focal reported October 11.

The order includes three measures: directing the state Department of Transportation to issue permits allowing fuel tanker trucks that meet safety requirements to carry more fuel on state highways; directing the Department of Public Safety to suspend enforcement of restrictions on the use of dyed diesel in highway vehicles through December 31; and directing the Department of Public Health and Environment to ask the federal EPA for a waiver of 2027 summer reformulated gasoline requirements. The order makes clear that fuel transport safety rules remain in place.
Polis attributed the price surge to global supply disruptions, saying it has driven up costs for households, farmers, ranchers, and truck drivers, and called for ending U.S. involvement in related conflicts. The order aims to ease fuel supply pressure, though it does not promise to directly lower pump prices.
