Speed Cameras Installed in LA Council District 5, Set to Go Live Oct. 26

Monday, October 12, 2026 · City · GSM News

Los Angeles is a city in Los Angeles County, California. Four automated speed-enforcement systems with eight cameras have been installed at intersections in Los Angeles City Council District 5, scheduled to begin operating on Oct. 26 as part of a citywide effort to curb dangerous driving.

According to a statement from Councilwoman Katy Yaroslavsky, who represents CD 5 covering Westside and Mid-City communities, the cameras were installed at La Brea Avenue and First Street, Fairfax Avenue and Clinton Street, Melrose and Hayworth avenues, and La Cienega and Pico boulevards.

The cameras are not yet active, and motorists are not currently receiving warnings or citations. When activated, drivers traveling 11 mph or more above the posted speed limit will receive warnings during an initial 60-day period. After that period, citations will begin at $50.

Yaroslavsky said the cameras respond directly to community complaints about speeding and dangerous driving. Los Angeles has seen persistently high traffic fatality numbers in recent years, and the city hopes automated enforcement will reduce speeds on major corridors.
