Streets Blanketed With Mud in Forest Falls as San Bernardino Mountain Communities Mop Up

Forest Falls is a city in San Bernardino County, California. Moisture churned up by the remnants of Tropical Storm Rachel brought heavy rain to the Inland Empire early Sunday, and streets in Forest Falls, a mountain community in San Bernardino County, were blanketed with mud. Residents began cleaning up on Monday.
According to a USA Today Network roundup, the same system caused problems across the inland region early Sunday; in Riverside County, two people were rescued after their vehicles were swept away or trapped by floodwater, as GSM has reported separately.
Forest Falls sits along Mill Creek at the edge of the San Bernardino National Forest, where steep terrain makes the community prone to mud and debris flows during intense rain. In late September, a thunderstorm triggered a debris flow there that swept a Jeep into a riverbed; its occupants escaped without injuries.
The National Weather Service had issued flood watches for the San Bernardino County mountains during the storm. Forecasters say the system moves out Monday, with drier weather later in the week. (Sources: USA Today Network; National Weather Service)
