Honolulu to Hold Annual Skyline Emergency Preparedness Drill Overnight Oct. 13-14

Honolulu is a city in Honolulu County, Hawaii (a consolidated city-county). The City and County of Honolulu's Department of Transportation Services (DTS) will conduct its annual Emergency Preparedness Exercise on the Skyline rail system on the evening of Tuesday, October 13, 2026, into the early morning hours of Wednesday, October 14, according to a city announcement.
The drill will run from 11:30 p.m. to 3 a.m. at the Keoneʻae UH West Oʻahu Skyline Station. City and County of Honolulu first responders — including the Honolulu Police Department (HPD), Honolulu Fire Department (HFD), and Honolulu Emergency Medical Services (EMS), among others — will take part.
The exercise will allow first responders to coordinate interoperability, command and control, and communications in a joint response exercise, evaluate their preparation capabilities, and enhance the safety and security of the Skyline system.
The city stresses there will be no impact to Skyline operations: the system will run its normal schedule — 4 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. — on both October 13 and 14.
Residents and visitors should expect increased activity and noise around the Keoneʻae UH West Oʻahu Station during the drill. Road closures will be in effect at the Kualakaʻi Parkway and Hoʻomohala Avenue intersection, with detour signage and traffic control in place to guide motorists.
Skyline is Honolulu's elevated rail system connecting West Oʻahu with urban Honolulu. The city holds the overnight drill each year to test multi-agency coordination for rail emergencies.
