[Social Media Buzz] "Gen Z Nurses" Challenge Backfires: 15 Nigerian Nursing Students Disciplined, Amnesty International Intervenes

Fifteen nursing students at Nigeria's Madonna University have been disciplined for participating in the TikTok "Gen Z Nurses" dance challenge, with one expelled and 14 suspended for a year, drawing international attention.
The students danced in hospital waiting areas, staircases and other locations, posting the videos online. A 15-second version garnered over 1.7 million views on X. The university deemed the behavior unprofessional and issued the sanctions on October 3.
On October 8, Amnesty International publicly called on the university to reverse the sanctions as disproportionate. Nigeria's National Association of Students and nursing student associations have also appealed for review. The controversy continues to simmer, with netizens split: some say the students were unprofessional, others call the punishment excessive.
