Dodgers Turn to Playoff Ace Yamamoto in Must-Win NLCS Game 2 at Milwaukee

Los Angeles is a city in Los Angeles County, California. MILWAUKEE -- The defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers will turn to postseason ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto on Monday as they look to even the National League Championship Series at a game apiece after dropping the opener 2-1 to the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday. Rookie right-hander Logan Henderson will start for the Brewers.
In Game 1, Brice Turang homered to open the fourth to tie the game, and rookie Luis Lara singled in the go-ahead run in the fifth. Brewers ace Jacob Misiorowski allowed one run on five hits over 4 1/3 innings on 94 pitches before the bullpen threw 4 2/3 scoreless innings; Trevor Megill recorded his third save in the team's four postseason wins. Dodgers starter Tarik Skubal also went 4 1/3 innings, allowing one run.
Yamamoto has been dominant in the postseason, posting an 8-1 record with a 2.14 ERA in 11 appearances, including 10 starts. He earned the win in Game 3 of the NLDS against Atlanta, allowing one run on four hits in seven innings for a 3-1 win. Brewers fans also remember last year's NLCS, when Yamamoto threw a complete-game 5-1 win in Game 2 as the Dodgers swept the series. He beat Milwaukee twice this season, allowing two earned runs in 13 innings. "In the postseason I just want to limit the damage and focus on my job," Yamamoto said.
Henderson, however, has had the Dodgers' number: 2-0 with a 0.75 ERA against them this season (one run in 12 innings, 13 strikeouts and four walks), and 5-1 with a 1.93 ERA over his last seven regular-season starts. He started Game 2 of the NLDS against San Diego on Oct. 4, allowing two runs in five innings in a game Milwaukee won 4-3 on a walk-off. "There's definitely some familiarity there on both sides," Henderson said Sunday. "Go back, watch those outings, and see what we had success with and come up with a game plan."
Milwaukee's bullpen has been dominant this postseason, allowing three runs (one earned) over 19 innings in the NLDS against San Diego. For the Dodgers to even the series, Yamamoto must deliver -- and the lineup must break through against Henderson and that bullpen. Source: Reuters.
