Flash Flood Warnings Issued in Las Vegas as Rachel's Remnants Bring Heavy Rain

Monday, October 12, 2026 · City · GSM News

Las Vegas is a city in Clark County, Nevada. On Sunday, October 11, moisture from the remnants of tropical system Rachel brought heavy rain to Southern Nevada, prompting flash flood warnings across parts of the Las Vegas Valley. Radar estimates from the National Weather Service put rainfall at roughly 1.5 to 3 inches in portions of the warned area.

According to Las Vegas media, the warnings covered west-central Clark County, including areas of Las Vegas and nearby communities. The morning warning was scheduled to expire at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, but the Weather Service also issued a flood watch effective until 5 a.m. PDT Monday, October 12, along with a wind advisory forecasting valley gusts of 45 to 55 mph.

The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) reported weather-related delays on bus routes 101 and 102 on Sunday morning. Forecasters warn that flash flooding is one of the desert's most dangerous weather hazards: drivers should never enter a flooded road or a flowing wash.

The rain is part of Rachel's northward push into the interior Southwest. The system made landfall in northern Baja California on Saturday night before weakening into a post-tropical cyclone, with its remnants bringing heavy rain to Southern California, Nevada, Utah, and Arizona. A flood watch means conditions are favorable for flooding — not that flooding is certain.
