Sam Mendes' Beatles Four-Film Event Set for April 2028, With Films Expected a Week Apart

Monday, October 12, 2026 · Film · GSM News

Sam Mendes' Beatles project for Sony, "The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event," has locked in its release plan: all four films will arrive in theaters in April 2028, currently expected to open a week apart, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Co-producer Pippa Harris shared the details at the BFI London Film Festival on Monday and confirmed the production is on day 180 of shooting.

Each film tells the story of one band member: Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr. Harris said the films stand alone as individual stories but carry a cumulative power greater than the sum of their parts, and that audiences can watch one a week or a pair over a weekend. The project marks the first time Apple Corps has granted full life-story and music rights for scripted feature films about the band.
