Sanders Holds Three Weekend Rallies Stumping for Maine Democratic Senate Candidate Jackson

Monday, October 12, 2026 · States · GSM News

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont traveled to Maine last weekend, holding three campaign rallies for Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Troy Jackson. The first rally took place Oct. 10 (Saturday) in Bangor, followed by two more Oct. 11 (Sunday) in Lewiston and Biddeford, building momentum for the final three weeks before the Nov. 3 midterm election.

At the rallies, Sanders and Jackson focused on affordability, health-care costs and expanding Social Security. Jackson attacked the voting record of Republican incumbent Sen. Susan Collins, saying she votes with Trump's positions 96% of the time. Sanders emphasized that the outcome of this Maine seat could determine control of the U.S. Senate, making it one of the most competitive races in the country.

Notably, this was Sanders' first public return to Maine to stump for a Democratic candidate since the Graham Platner withdrawal controversy this summer. Former President Obama had already publicly endorsed Jackson on Oct. 8. Collins is seen as a formidable opponent with a personal brand and moderate image that have delivered her multiple landslide re-elections, and Democrats hope national figures can energize the base turnout.
