Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced Oct. 6 that automotive electronics components manufacturer Methode Electronics Inc. will move its headquarters and principal offices from Chicago to Southfield in Oakland County, Michigan. The company plans to invest $3.7 million in the new headquarters and create at least 90 new jobs.

Methode Electronics' core markets include automotive, commercial vehicle and industrial sectors. The company said it aims to build a centralized brand headquarters that honors its heritage while looking toward the future. The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) supported the project, saying it demonstrates the strength of Michigan's business climate and talent pool.

"Today, we are investing in our automotive industry by landing major projects and creating jobs for Michiganders. I thank Methode Electronics for choosing Michigan as its new home," Whitmer said in a statement. Michigan has in recent years pushed to attract automotive supply-chain companies back, and this Chicago company's northward move is seen as another win for the state's "Make It in Michigan" economic development strategy.
