Pappas Says Campaign 'Takes Nothing for Granted' as New Hampshire Senate Seat Becomes Key Battleground

Democratic Rep. Chris Pappas said in a CBS "Face the Nation" interview on Sunday, October 11, that with just 23 days until the November 3 election, his campaign "takes nothing for granted." Pappas has represented New Hampshire in Congress since 2019 and is now facing former Republican Sen. John Sununu for the Senate seat being vacated by the retiring Jeanne Shaheen.
Pappas noted that New Hampshire is a classic purple state with no early voting, making independent voters, base turnout, and reaching Republican voters all critical. He pointed out that the state's 2016 Senate race was decided by just over a thousand votes, a sign of how competitive it remains. Although CBS currently rates the seat "Likely Democrat," Republicans still view it as a possible flip.
Sununu previously served as a congressman and senator, losing his 2008 re-election bid to Shaheen. In the interview, Pappas tied his opponent to a broader political agenda, framing the race as about the future rather than returning to the past.
