North Korea Fires Multiple Ballistic Missiles Into Eastern Sea, One Flying Over 900 km in Fourth Launch in a Month

North Korea fired multiple ballistic missiles toward the sea off its east coast on Monday, South Korea's military said, marking Pyongyang's fourth launch in a month and following Seoul's recent first test of a hypersonic missile. The missiles, which appeared to be of different types, were fired at around 9:20 a.m. local time from near Pyongyang, and one type flew more than 900 km, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said. Japan's coast guard said two projectiles believed to be ballistic missiles had already fallen.
South Korea's National Security Office convened an emergency meeting, condemning the launches as violations of UN Security Council resolutions and urging an immediate halt. A JCS spokesperson said the launches appeared to be a show of force in response to South Korea's successful hypersonic missile test, which President Lee Jae Myung personally oversaw last week. North Korea last fired a ballistic missile on October 3, when state media KCNA said it was a hypersonic missile tested under Kim Jong Un's supervision. North Korea has been under UN sanctions since 2006. (Source: Reuters)
