Oklahoma Considers Texas-Style 'Strong Families Tax Credit'; Legislative Study Set for Today

Monday, October 12, 2026 · States · GSM News

Oklahoma Republicans are considering a Texas-style "Strong Families Tax Credit" program, with a legislative study scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on October 12 at the state Capitol, The Oklahoman reported on October 11.

Organized by state Rep. Nicole Miller, the study features several guest speakers, including former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy. Dungy co-founded the nonprofit All Pro Dad, which has long advocated strengthening family bonds — the philosophy behind Florida's program of the same name. Texas representative Paxton will also describe that state's pilot program, which invested $5 million this year.

Florida's "Strong Families Tax Credit" was created in 2021 with an initial $5 million authorization and has since grown to $53.1 million. First United Bank CFO Brian Johnson and Philip Wheaton, executive director of the Christian children's service One More Child, will also speak. Miller said the study will help lawmakers explore how to support community-rooted programs that strengthen parent-child relationships.
