Monday, October 12, 2026 · White House · GSM News

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump announced Sunday, Oct. 11, on his social media platform Truth Social that he has named Katie Zacharia as White House press secretary. Zacharia will begin her term Monday, Oct. 12 (Columbus Day), and hold her first news conference Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 9:30 a.m. ET from the White House Press Briefing Room.

Zacharia succeeds Karoline Leavitt, who left the White House in late August. According to CNBC, Leavitt went on maternity leave after giving birth to her second child earlier this year and is expected to join Fox News as an on-air contributor next month.

According to CNBC, citing Zacharia's LinkedIn profile, Zacharia is a lawyer who has worked since June as a senior communications advisor for Trump Media & Technology Group, which owns Truth Social. She also serves as general counsel at Fix California, a conservative activist group founded by longtime Trump ally Richard Grenell. In March, Zacharia finished a roughly two-month stint as a spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security. A California native, she is a graduate of Pepperdine University and the Pepperdine Caruso School of Law, a frequent commentator on Fox News and Newsmax, and a mother of four.

Newsmax reported that the administration had already offered Zacharia the position on Friday, Oct. 10. (Sources: Truth Social, CNBC, Newsmax)
