Columbus East Broad Street Safety Project Phase One Set for October 2027 Completion

Tuesday, October 13, 2026 · City · GSM News

Columbus is a city in Franklin County, Ohio. Columbus's Department of Public Service told the Columbus Dispatch on October 12 that the first phase of the East Broad Street safety project on the city's far east side is proceeding on schedule and is expected to be completed in October 2027, weather permitting. The project covers the busy four-lane stretch east of Interstate 270 to the outerbelt, with a total contract value of $23.6 million, of which the contractor has spent $10.6 million so far.

When complete, the corridor will add through and turn lanes, sidewalks and a shared-use path on the north side, upgraded traffic signals with backplates, pedestrian push buttons and signal interconnect conduit, plus street lighting, street trees and stormwater drainage facilities. Crews are currently milling and resurfacing the roadway between the eastbound and westbound lanes, forcing eastbound traffic to shift lanes; the main roadway work is expected to be finished before winter. Once the widened south side is in place, traffic will be switched onto the new pavement. The project is one of the city's flagship efforts to improve traffic safety on the far east side.
