Burnham Pledges 'Serious Conversation' on EU Relations Ahead of November Reset Summit

Prime Minister Andy Burnham pledged on 13 October to open a 'serious conversation' about Britain's future relationship with the European Union, saying the current arrangements are 'not good enough'. The comments came ahead of a UK-EU 'reset' summit on 20 November.
Three agreements are slated for signature at the summit, covering food and drink trade, youth mobility and the linking of emissions trading schemes. The UK government hopes the package will deliver an economic boost of around £10 billion a year.
At the same time, London is concerned that the EU's 'Made in Europe' rules could shut British manufacturers out of European supply chains; Burnham said he would raise the issue with Brussels and seek fair treatment for UK firms.
Burnham also clarified that he does not believe Russian interference changed the outcome of the 2016 referendum. His remarks continue the recent thaw between London and Brussels, with both sides expressing hope for concrete progress on trade and mobility.
