Idaho and U.S. Forest Service Expand Forest Management Partnership: Five New Agreements, $12.4 Million, 20-Year Framework

BOISE — The U.S. Forest Service and the Idaho Department of Lands announced on Oct. 2 that five new Good Neighbor Authority (GNA) agreements have been signed to expand active forest management across Idaho's national forests, backed by more than $12.4 million in new federal investment and a 20-year collaboration framework.

The funding supports timber sale preparation and implementation, hazardous fuels reduction, road improvements, timber salvage, reforestation, post-wildfire recovery, thinning and watershed protection. The GNA mechanism lets state agencies carry out approved restoration work directly on federal forest land, and Idaho has made it a central tool for speeding up forest treatment.

Gov. Brad Little said Idaho is a national leader in active forest management and the new agreements build on the partnership's success. "With millions more in new federal investment and a 20-year framework, we can accelerate forest restoration, reduce wildfire risk, and support the rural communities and timber industry that depend on healthy forests," Little said, noting the work directly supports his Make Forests Healthy Again executive order.
