Muncie Mayor Ridenour Says He Will Not Seek a Third Term in 2027

MUNCIE, Ind. — Muncie Mayor Dan Ridenour, a Republican, announced on Oct. 12 that he will not seek a third term in 2027. Ridenour, first elected in 2019, will serve through Dec. 31, 2027, and pledged to keep working “tirelessly” for the remaining roughly 14 and a half months.
Ridenour, who turns 67 next week, said an April 29 prostate cancer diagnosis and subsequent surgery led him to rethink his plans. “Serving Muncie as mayor has been the honor of my life,” he said in his statement. He pointed to four straight years of improved year-end city cash balances, a $16.2 million reduction in Muncie Redevelopment Commission debt, and a policy of “never borrowing money for a developer — we simply pay cash or say no,” alongside growth in housing and population.
He said he will spend more time with his wife, children and grandchildren after leaving office, and hinted that more good news for the city is still to be announced in 2027 or later.
