In Ruston, Landry Showcases $3.5 Billion Rural Louisiana Investment Package: Broadband, Roads and Rural Health

RUSTON, La. — Gov. Jeff Landry traveled to Louisiana Delta Community College in Ruston on Monday, Oct. 12, to spotlight more than $3.5 billion in investments aimed at strengthening rural Louisiana, spanning broadband expansion, transportation infrastructure and rural health care. He was joined by leaders from ConnectLA, the Office of Louisiana Highway Construction and the Louisiana Department of Health.
According to state officials, the package includes $1.53 billion in federal broadband funding through ConnectLA's GUMBO program to expand internet access and narrow the digital divide, and $580 million in road and bridge projects through the highway construction office, with 152 projects currently underway across the state, alongside a federally supported rural health transformation effort expected to run five years. "Rural Louisiana has helped build this country and power its industries for generations," Landry said. "We want our young people across Louisiana to see a future here."
The administration's combined $3.5 billion figure spans multiple programs and implementation periods, with major federal awards included: some projects are already under construction, while others will unfold over several years. The eventual measure of the strategy will be how many previously unserved homes get broadband, how many roads and bridges are completed, and whether rural access to care improves.
