Massachusetts Awards $13 Million in Conservation Grants to 45 Land and Recreation Projects

BOSTON — The Healey-Driscoll administration has awarded $13 million in conservation grants supporting 45 outdoor recreation and land preservation projects across Massachusetts. The funding, provided through the Conservation Partnership Grant Program, assists nonprofit land trusts in preserving open space and safeguarding critical farmland, forests and water resources.
Among the recipients, the North County Land Trust received a combined $470,000: $425,000 for the 82-acre North Wachusett Forest and Fields project in Westminster, and $45,000 for the 44-acre Henshaw Farm acquisition in Templeton. The Templeton land serves as crucial surface water protection for the Ware River watershed.
State officials said the investment aligns with Massachusetts' biodiversity goals, supports climate-resilience efforts and expands open space for residents. The statewide conservation package was announced on Oct. 9, and land trusts across the Commonwealth will carry out the farmland, forest and watershed projects in the coming seasons.
