ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Minnesota Wild erupted for three goals in a span of 5:07 late in the first period on Monday night at Grand Casino Arena and held on to beat the Vegas Golden Knights 4-2, ending Vegas's four-game winning streak.
Matt Boldy opened the scoring at 11:50 of the first period, Maxim Shabanov added a power-play goal, and Danila Yurov finished the flurry off a feed from Bobby Brink to make it 3-0. Vegas answered through Rasmus Andersson in the second period and William Karlsson on a third-period 2-on-1 to cut it to 3-2, but Joel Eriksson Ek's empty-net goal with 1:22 remaining sealed the win.
Defenseman Quinn Hughes recorded two assists, extending his season-opening point streak to six games. Goaltender Jesper Wallstedt stopped 21 of 23 shots. The Wild improved to 4-1-1 with a perfect 2-0 home record; Vegas fell to 5-2. Wild forward Nico Sturm left the game in the first period after being struck high by a teammate's shot and did not return.
