Final Albuquerque Journal Poll: Haaland Leads New Mexico Governor's Race 49% to 42%

The Albuquerque Journal's second and final poll of the 2026 New Mexico governor's race, published Oct. 11, finds Democrat Deb Haaland leading Republican Gregg Hull 49% to 42% among likely voters, with 9% undecided. The survey comes 23 days before the Nov. 3 election; early voting began Oct. 6.
Both candidates hold their parties: Haaland takes 85% of Democrats and Hull 91% of Republicans. Among independents — now more than a quarter of New Mexico's registered voters — Haaland leads 48% to 34%. The gender gap is wide: Haaland leads by 21 points among women, while Hull leads by 8 points among men.
The result tracks an earlier KOB 4/SurveyUSA poll (Sept. 25-30) that had Haaland ahead 47% to 41%. Haaland, a former U.S. interior secretary and congresswoman, would become the first Native American woman elected governor in U.S. history if she wins. Hull, a former Rio Rancho mayor running on public safety, education and infrastructure, has been endorsed by former Gov. Gary Johnson; Haaland was endorsed this week by former President Barack Obama.
The seat is open as Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham reaches her term limit. Analysts say women, Hispanic voters and independents will decide the outcome.
