Nevada Colleges Launch 'Eyes Open' Campus Safety Campaign: Know the Signs, Make the Call

Tuesday, October 13, 2026 · States · GSM News

LAS VEGAS — The College of Southern Nevada (CSN) announced that beginning Tuesday, Oct. 13, it will join institutions across the Nevada System of Higher Education in launching “Eyes Open,” a statewide campus safety awareness campaign built around one message: “Know the Signs. Make the Call.” Students received an introductory email on Oct. 12, with the statewide public launch and social media push on Oct. 13.

The campaign teaches students, faculty and staff to recognize potential warning signs and to know when and how to report concerns before situations escalate. Signs to watch for include threats of violence, aggressive or markedly changed behavior, talk of dying or killing, weapons violations, and actions suggesting preparation for violence. The campaign stresses that no single behavior automatically means someone is a threat; the goal is not to investigate or judge others, but to let trained campus professionals assess and respond.

School officials say awareness matters most for employees who interact with students and colleagues every day: a single report can connect someone with support, resolve a potential safety issue or prevent an escalation. More on the warning signs and how to report is at EyesOpen.nevada.edu.
