Trump Rallies in Youngstown for Husted and Ramaswamy as Gas Prices, Inflation Loom Over Midterms

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — President Donald Trump held a midterm rally at the Covelli Centre in Youngstown on Monday, Oct. 12, campaigning for Republican Sen. Jon Husted and gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy. It was his second Ohio trip in about ten days, following an Oct. 3 rally in Vandalia.
Both Ohio races are tight ahead of the Nov. 3 election. Husted, appointed to fill the Senate seat vacated by Vice President JD Vance, faces Democrat Sherrod Brown. Ramaswamy, the Republican nominee for governor, faces Democrat Amy Acton, a former state health director, in the race to succeed term-limited Gov. Mike DeWine. Trump predicted a 'big surprise' for Republicans.
The economic backdrop is central to the campaign: national gas prices have climbed above $4 a gallon, according to AAA, and the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation gauge, PCE, was running at a 3.4% annual pace in August, above the 2% target. At the rally Trump outlined policies including no tax on tips and Social Security payments and stricter voter ID laws, and repeated a promise to send payments to voters if Republicans win both houses of Congress.
Ramaswamy told the crowd he would pursue policies to attract businesses and retain young workers, cut taxes, and, if elected, work closely with the White House to bring more funding and higher-paying jobs to Ohio. This report states the facts of the event without taking a political position.
