Philadelphia Man Kills Relatives, Sets Fire, Hijacks Bus Before Taking Own Life in 12-Hour Standoff

Philadelphia is a city in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania (a consolidated city-county). In the early hours of Monday, a house fire broke out in Philadelphia's Cedarbrook neighborhood. Firefighters who arrived around 3:40 a.m. to fight the blaze found two women shot dead inside the home. Family members identified the victims as Sadie Turner and Gabby Turner, both shot in the head. Investigators determined that the gunman and arsonist was Lonnie Turner, who lived with the two women — Sadie's adopted son and Gabby's brother. He allegedly fired the shots first, then set a fire in the kitchen.
About an hour later, around 5 a.m., police received a report that a gunman had boarded a SEPTA Route 18 bus stopped in the Fox Run area, refused to get off and told the driver to call police. According to SEPTA spokesman Andrew Busch, another passenger and the driver got off safely. The man told the driver that he had shot two people earlier that morning.
Police set up a standoff, with large numbers of officers at the scene. After nearly 12 hours, the man shot himself inside the bus. Surrounding blocks were closed during the standoff, and the case remains under investigation.
