Oops: Pro-Collins Ad Mistakenly Aired in Portland, Oregon Instead of Portland, Maine

Portland is a city in Multnomah County, Oregon. With the U.S. midterm elections approaching, a 'wrong Portland' mix-up has become a campaign blooper. Defending Main Street, a super PAC backing Maine Republican Senator Susan Collins's re-election, had its ad buyer, Cross Screen Media, mistakenly place about $25,000 in digital campaign ads in Portland, Oregon — when the target was Portland, Maine, nearly 3,000 miles away.
The ad, titled 'So Many Taxes,' attacked the tax record of Collins's Democratic opponent, former Maine Senate President Troy Jackson. Once the ad aired in Oregon, the mistake was quickly discovered; the agency pulled it immediately and issued a full refund, with Cross Screen Media admitting it was '100% our responsibility.' The Collins-Jackson race is one of the most closely contested Senate contests in the country this year. The ad is now running as intended in Portland, Maine, and the cross-country mix-up has become a viral joke on social media.
