South Carolina Men's Soccer Tops Columbia College 3-0 for Best Start Since 1989

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The University of South Carolina men's soccer team defeated Columbia College 3-0 on Monday night, Oct. 12, at Stone Stadium. The win lifted the No. 9-ranked Gamecocks to 9-1-2 on the season — the program's best start since 1989.
The hosts controlled the match from the outset. Seedorff opened the scoring in the 8th minute with a header from a right-wing cross, and Lang doubled the lead in the 16th minute with a strike from the top of the box. DeJianne added the third goal in the 70th minute to close out the scoring. South Carolina outshot the visitors 16-2, and its goalkeeper was rarely tested.
Head coach Tony Annan said the team executed in all three phases and kept pressing even after taking an early lead — the kind of approach he wants to see.
South Carolina competes in the Sun Belt Conference and has been a fixture in the national rankings in recent seasons. Next up, the Gamecocks travel to face Georgia State on Saturday, Oct. 17, to continue conference play.
The win also keeps South Carolina near the top of the Sun Belt Conference standings. A road stretch follows, and the Oct. 17 match at Georgia State is viewed as a key test of the team's credentials. The coaching staff said this week's training will emphasize recovery and squad rotation to keep starters fresh through the dense schedule.
