Los Angeles to Open Marijuana Cultivation License Applications to All Eligible Applicants on October 19

Los Angeles is a city in Los Angeles County, California. The Los Angeles Department of Cannabis Regulation announced that, starting October 19, it will open marijuana cultivation license applications to all eligible applicants, after a period of more restrictive licensing. Under Ordinance 189034, adopted by the City Council on August 25 and signed by the mayor on September 8, applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis within each Community Plan Area, subject to geographic concentration limits. The department must notify applicants within 30 days whether an application is complete, and must decide within 90 days once it is complete. In an April report to the City Council, the department said existing licensing provisions had not kept pace with changes to California's marijuana regulatory system, and that modernizing the process could encourage participation in the regulated market and generate additional tax revenue.
