Peacock Greenlights 'Assassins' Competition Series, With Scarlett Johansson as Executive Producer

Peacock announced on Tuesday, October 13, that the NBCUniversal streaming service has greenlit Assassins, a new unscripted competition series produced by B17 Entertainment, part of Sony Pictures Television. The executive producers are actress Scarlett Johansson and B17 Entertainment co-founders Brien Meagher and Rhett Bachner. Trade outlets including Variety and Deadline reported the greenlight the same day.
According to Peacock, Assassins is inspired by the real-life game Assassin, played on campuses around the world. From the moment they arrive, each player is secretly assigned a target they must eliminate before the season is out; but every hunter is also the hunted, and no one is ever safe. With shifting alliances and deception, only the most calculating player will survive to win, Peacock said.
B17 Entertainment's previous unscripted work includes The Final Straw for ABC and History of Swear Words for Netflix. Multiple outlets noted that this is Johansson's first reality series as an executive producer. Peacock has not yet announced a host, the cast, a production schedule or a premiere date, and has not explained how the televised version will handle the game's elimination mechanics.
