SSAB Starts Construction of SEK 3.3 Billion Quenching Line in Oxelösund

SSAB has marked the start of construction of its new quenching line in Oxelösund. The investment of SEK 3.3 billion, announced in May 2026, will expand capacity for SSAB's advanced high-strength wear and protection steels, with production planned to begin in 2030.
Quenching is a heat-treatment process that rapidly cools steel to achieve exceptional hardness and strength, and is critical for many of SSAB's most advanced wear-resistant and protection steels, including Hardox and Armox. The new line will add approximately 100,000 tonnes of annual capacity for SSAB Special Steels' most advanced and value-creating products.
President and CEO Johnny Sjöström said the investment strengthens the company's leadership in advanced premium steels and expands capacity for some of the most advanced and differentiated products in its portfolio, while SSAB finalizes the conversion of the Oxelösund steel mill and invests in modern electrified technology.
