Haverford Professor Guangtian Ha Arrested as Federal Cyberstalking Indictment Is Unsealed

HAVERFORD, Pa. — Federal prosecutors in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania said Guangtian Ha, an associate professor of religion at Haverford College, has been arrested under a federal indictment filed September 30 and unsealed October 6. Prosecutors allege that between October 2025 and May 2026, Ha used at least four anonymous accounts on X to send a Jewish colleague roughly 50 messages containing antisemitic content and violent threats, and posted the colleague's home address and the name of the colleague's young child, forcing the family to flee their home twice with the child.
Ha, who was born in China and earned a Ph.D. in anthropology from Columbia University, received the American Anthropological Association's Clifford Geertz Prize in 2023. Haverford President Wendy Raymond said Ha has been suspended and barred from campus, saying identity-based harassment has no place at the college. Prosecutors have asked the court to keep him detained. The charges have not been proven in court, and the defendant is presumed innocent.
