Illinois Announces $600 Million in Tax Cuts for 950,000 Working Families

Gov. J.B. Pritzker's office announced Oct. 13 that Illinois is delivering $600 million in tax cuts that will benefit about 950,000 working families.
The governor's office said a centerpiece of the package is the state's child tax credit, which has doubled in size since it was created in 2024, giving more low- and moderate-income families with children a larger credit when they file.
Pritzker said the tax relief is intended to ease pressure on working families from housing, food and child-care costs. The state has also eliminated its grocery tax in recent years and expanded property tax relief for seniors.
The credits will be claimed through state income tax filings, and the state revenue department will issue guidance on eligibility.
