Indiana Commerce Secretary Heads to Japan; Japanese Firms Employ About 62,000 in the State

Gov. Mike Braun announced Oct. 13 that Indiana's secretary of commerce, Goodrich, will visit Japan this week, traveling to Tokyo and Nagoya to meet Japanese companies and industry leaders and promote economic cooperation.
According to the governor's office, Japanese companies currently operate about 290 facilities across 60 Indiana counties and employ roughly 62,000 people in the state. Since 2005, Japanese firms have invested more than $10 billion in Indiana.
Indiana has long-standing economic ties with Japan, with Japanese automakers and suppliers operating production sites in the state. Japan is one of Indiana's leading sources of foreign investment.
The state said the trip aims to strengthen existing investment relationships and attract new Japanese projects, with outcomes to be announced after the visit.
