Los Angeles is a city in Los Angeles County, California. Discover Los Angeles, the City of Los Angeles' official tourism organization, has published its guide to events for the week of October 26 to November 1, covering Halloween, Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), sporting events, live performances, comedy and a stage musical. Here are the highlights.

Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). The Día de los Muertos altar exhibition runs October 24 to November 2 at Gloria Molina Grand Park (200 N. Grand Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90012), a ten-day display of 17 altars created by artists, local organizations and Grand Park's resident partners, open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; this year's theme is "The Power of One." On November 1, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., the park will host the Downtown Día de los Muertos / Noche de los Muertos celebration, where the community altar will be unveiled and attendees can light a candle and place a photo to honor loved ones who have passed. Discover Los Angeles also highlighted other Día de los Muertos events across Greater Los Angeles: the Noche de Ofrenda and nine nights of novena processions on Olvera Street; a celebration at the Los Angeles Central Library in connection with its current exhibition "Made in LA: Print Culture in Los Angeles"; the major festival at Hollywood Forever Cemetery; events at Forest Lawn in Glendale, a traditional Día de los Muertos site; and a festival celebration at the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana.

Halloween (October 31). Halloween-season events in the guide include Destination Fear Fest, a haunted-house experience; Universal Studios' Halloween Horror Nights; Cinespia's horror screenings at Hollywood Forever Cemetery (Sleepy Hollow and Sweeney Todd over Halloween weekend); the "Boonion Station" children's Halloween event at Union Station downtown; the 10th Annual Haunted Little Tokyo; Boney Island on trails in the Santa Monica Mountains; and Boo at the LA Zoo. On October 31, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will screen Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow with a live orchestra. Area theme parks will also run seasonal events, including Six Flags Magic Mountain, Knott's Berry Farm, the Balboa Fun Zone and Pacific Park.

Live events and performances. Composer Michael Giacchino — whose credits include Star Trek, Jurassic World, Spider-Man: Homecoming and The Batman — brings a live-to-picture screening of Werewolf by Night to the Orpheum Theatre on October 23, plus a first look at his new musical Headless. Other listings include a comedy night in Santa Monica, a hip-hop party in Pico Union and Independent Film Week in Silver Lake; the Lakers face the Sacramento Kings on October 26 (home) and 27 (away), the Clippers host the Phoenix Suns, Chicago Bulls and Dallas Mavericks on October 27, 29 and 31, the NHL's LA Kings play on October 27 and 29, LA Galaxy plays on Halloween night, October 31, LAFC plays October 28 and 31, and the Los Angeles Rams host the Houston Texans on November 1.
